Turkey calls for stop of violence in Syria
"We hope that the violent incidents occurring in southern Syria will be swiftly brought to an end through local-level dialogue by the Syrian government and that security will be established," said ministry spokesperson Oncu Keceli.
The statement came in response to recent clashes between armed Bedouin tribal groups and Druze militias in the southern governorate of Suwayda. Initial reports from Syria’s Interior Ministry indicated that the fighting left over 30 people dead and nearly 100 injured.
Keceli stressed that preserving Syria’s sovereignty and territorial unity should remain central throughout the conflict resolution process.
"Türkiye together with responsible stakeholders of the international community will continue to support efforts to strengthen stability and promote reconciliation in Syria," he added.
The clashes, which broke out in the Al-Maqous area of Suwayda late Sunday, prompted a strong response from Syrian authorities. The Interior Ministry described the events as “bloody developments” involving local armed factions and tribal forces.
In a follow-up statement, the ministry announced that its security units, in coordination with the Defense Ministry, would take direct action in the region. Their objectives include ending the violence, restoring order, pursuing those responsible, and referring them to the appropriate judicial authorities.
