Iran says US, Israel deployed ISIS to attack Iranian civilians
According to statements made on Tuesday, Iran’s highest-ranking military official alleged that the alleged infiltration followed what he described as Washington and Tel Aviv’s setback in a recent “12-day war” with Iran, as stated by reports. He claimed that ISIS operatives, labeled as “mercenaries,” were deliberately sent into the country to carry out attacks targeting both the general population and state security personnel.
The senior commander warned that, “Iran will not tolerate any violation of its sovereignty or territorial integrity,” while stressing that authorities have shown restraint in responding to demonstrations. He added, however, that security forces would not permit “terrorist elements” to operate openly in public spaces.
There was no immediate response from either the United States or Israel regarding the accusations, according to reports.
Iran has faced sustained anti-government protests since last month, driven by deepening economic hardship and a historic collapse of the national currency. The Iranian rial has reportedly fallen to around 145,000 per US dollar, sharply increasing the cost of basic necessities and intensifying public discontent.
Iranian officials have repeatedly claimed that foreign actors, including the US and Israel, are supporting what they describe as “armed rioters” involved in the unrest.
While no official casualty figures have been released, estimates cited by rights-monitoring reports suggest that at least 646 people have been killed, including both protesters and members of the security forces, with more than 1,000 others injured. The same reports indicate that at least 10,721 individuals have been detained during demonstrations held at 585 locations nationwide, spanning 186 cities across all 31 provinces.
