Turkish FM meets US ambassador, Syria’s special envoy Tom Barrack
The Turkish Foreign Ministry shares a photo of the meeting on a US-based social media platform, though no additional details are provided. Barrack quotes the post, saying, "Continuing discussions with Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan today."
The meeting comes after the US welcomes a new ceasefire and integration agreement between the Syrian government and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) announced on Sunday. Barrack describes the agreement and ceasefire as “a pivotal inflection point” on social media.
He notes that Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa has affirmed that Kurds are an integral part of Syria, adding, "The United States looks forward to the seamless integration of our historic partner in the fight against ISIS (Daesh)."
Barrack stresses, "The challenging work of finalizing the details of a comprehensive integration agreement begins now, and the United States stands firmly behind this process at every stage."
The agreement, announced by al-Sharaa, establishes a comprehensive ceasefire and full integration measures between the Syrian government and the SDF, aimed at restoring state authority in the northeast. According to a Syrian news agency, the deal calls for an immediate ceasefire across all fronts and the withdrawal of SDF-affiliated forces to areas east of the Euphrates River as a step toward redeployment.
