Pakistan Blasts Israel Over Violations of Gaza Ceasefire
Addressing a high-level UN Security Council session on Palestine, Dar painted a stark picture of competing forces pulling the peace process in opposite directions.
"We are meeting today at a critical juncture. On the one hand, intensified diplomatic efforts are underway to consolidate the ceasefire, alleviate the sufferings of Palestinians and advance implementation of the comprehensive plan to end the Gaza conflict, endorsed by Security Council resolution 2803. On the other hand, Israel's continued ceasefire violations, annexations, attempts and illegal actions across the occupied Palestinian territories continue to undermine these efforts and threaten prospects for a just and lasting peace," Dar said.
He reaffirmed that Pakistan "remains fully engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at the permanent cessation of hostilities and a just resolution of the conflict."
Dar reserved pointed criticism for Israel's expanding footprint in the occupied West Bank, declaring that "Israel's recent illegal decisions to expand its control over the West Bank are gravely disturbing."
He cited recent joint communiqués in which foreign ministers from Arab and Islamic nations condemned "in the strongest terms these measures and decisions aimed at imposing unlawful Israeli sovereignty, entrenching settlement activity, designating land, so-called 'state land,' and enforcing a new legal and administrative reality in the occupied West Bank."
"We affirmed that these illegal measures are null and void and constitute a clear violation of international law and international humanitarian law," he added.
Dar called for unobstructed humanitarian access and insisted that reconstruction efforts must proceed "without annexation, forced displacement or alteration of the territorial unity of the occupied Palestinian territory."
He closed with a pointed warning to the international community: "There can be no durable peace without justice, no stability without accountability, and no sustainable solution without the realization of the Palestinian people's right to self-determination."
The remarks come amid a marked deterioration in the West Bank since Israel launched its military campaign in Gaza in October 2023, with widespread reports of killings, mass arrests, displacement, and accelerating illegal settlement construction across the territory.
On Sunday, the Israeli government approved a sweeping proposal to formally register large swaths of West Bank land as "state property" — a designation not applied since Israel's occupation of the territory began in 1967.
Palestinian official figures place the death toll in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, at more than 1,115 since the war's outbreak, with approximately 11,500 wounded and some 22,000 Palestinians arrested over the same period.
The developments follow a landmark ruling issued by the International Court of Justice in July 2024, in which the court declared Israel's occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and called for the full evacuation of all settlements across the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
