Arab, Islamic FMs Urge Iran to Stop Attacks

(MENAFN) Foreign ministers representing several Arab and Islamic nations on Thursday issued a collective call for Iran to immediately cease its attacks on regional countries following a consultative ministerial meeting.

The meeting was hosted by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh and included the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan, Bahrain, Egypt, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Pakistan, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates, with discussions focused on enhancing regional security and stability.

In a joint statement released after the talks, the ministers strongly criticized what they described as intentional Iranian strikes carried out using ballistic missiles and drones, which targeted populated areas and civilian infrastructure such as oil facilities, desalination plants, airports, residential complexes, and diplomatic buildings.

They emphasized that such actions are unacceptable under any circumstances and reaffirmed the principle that states have the right to defend themselves in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter.

The ministers further urged Iran to halt its operations without delay, comply with international law, and adhere to the principles of good neighborliness as an initial step toward de-escalation and restoring stability across the region.

They also underlined that the future of relations with Iran will depend on respect for national sovereignty, non-interference in domestic matters, and refraining from threatening neighboring states.

In addition, the statement called on Iran to follow UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026), immediately stop all hostilities, and avoid any actions that could jeopardize international maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz or threaten security in the Bab al-Mandeb Strait.

The ministers also reaffirmed their backing for Lebanon’s sovereignty, stability, and territorial unity, supporting the Lebanese government’s stance that weapons should remain exclusively under state authority.
