Iran Says Fully Ready for World Cup
Speaking on a state broadcaster, Mohajerani confirmed that the Ministry of Youth and Sports had completed all necessary logistical and operational arrangements to ensure the team's competitive participation in the tournament, with preparations carried out under direct instruction from the sports minister and centered on delivering the facilities needed for a strong performance.
In a separate disclosure, Mohajerani revealed that the health minister reported 40,000 injured individuals had received free medical treatment during what she described as the "third imposed war" — underscoring the scale of the humanitarian burden Iran continues to bear.
The conflict traces back to February 28, when the United States and Israel launched coordinated strikes on Iranian territory, triggering a wave of retaliatory attacks by Tehran targeting U.S. assets and military installations across the Middle East. A two-week ceasefire was declared on April 8, followed by rare direct negotiations in Islamabad on April 11–12, though those talks concluded without a breakthrough. Washington subsequently extended the truce as diplomatic channels remain active.
On the footballing front, FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated on April 16 that Iran is expected to compete in the tournament, scheduled to run from June 11 to July 19, noting the team has formally qualified and expressed its intent to participate despite the volatile regional climate.
U.S. President Donald Trump had earlier raised concerns in March, suggesting that while Iran's squad would be welcomed at the competition, he questioned whether attendance would be appropriate given what he described as risks to their "life and safety."
