Iraq: ICRC president to meet senior officials, discuss humanitarian engagement on two-day visit
President Spoljaric will hold meetings with leading members of Iraq's government, parliament and judiciary, as well as with the Iraqi Red Crescent Society, to discuss humanitarian cooperation and the challenges facing the country and the wider region.
The ICRC has operated in Iraq since the 1980s, maintaining a continuous presence through periods of conflict. Today, it works with federal and local authorities to address humanitarian needs, including improved access to essential services such as health care and water, helping families determine the fate of missing loved ones, visiting detainees and addressing the dangerous legacy of unexploded weapons that continue to pose a threat long after fighting has ended.
