UK Backs Emerging US-Iran Talks, Calls for Lasting Diplomatic Settlement

(MENAFN) According to reports, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has expressed support for reported progress toward a potential agreement between the United States and Iran, emphasizing the importance of sustained international diplomatic engagement to secure long-term stability.

Starmer said on X that the UK intends to work closely with international partners to take advantage of what he described as an opportunity for a durable resolution. He stressed that any agreement should help end hostilities and ensure the Strait of Hormuz is reopened, with what he called “unconditional and unrestricted freedom of navigation.”

He also reaffirmed the UK’s position that Iran “must never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon,” adding that his government will continue efforts aimed at safeguarding British nationals from the wider consequences of the conflict.

Starmer further stated: “We will work with our international partners to seize this moment and achieve a long-term diplomatic settlement,” underscoring the need for coordinated global action.

These comments came after US President Donald Trump reportedly held discussions with regional leaders and described a potential US-Iran agreement as “largely negotiated,” though still awaiting final confirmation.
