Turkey Slams Israeli Expansion in Lebanon Over Regional Stability Concerns

(MENAFN) Türkiye on Monday sharply criticized Israel over what it described as an expansion of its occupation in Lebanon, warning that the move could further destabilize the region and aggravate an already severe humanitarian situation.

According to reports, the Turkish Foreign Ministry issued a statement accusing Israel of pursuing policies in Lebanon that resemble its actions in Gaza, arguing that such measures are undermining prospects for peace and security.

“We condemn in the strongest terms Israel’s expansion of its occupation in Lebanon. It appears that the Netanyahu government, as it has done in Gaza, aims to make the areas it occupies in Lebanon uninhabitable and force Lebanese people into permanent displacement.

"Through its expansionist and aggressive policies, Israel is targeting efforts to achieve peace and stability in the region and further worsening the humanitarian situation,” the ministry said.

The ministry argued that continued military actions and territorial expansion are hampering diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions and restoring stability across the Middle East.

According to reports, Türkiye also urged the international community to take a more active role in addressing the situation, emphasizing the need for immediate action to prevent further escalation.

The statement called on the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to take concrete steps without delay to ensure that Israel ends its attacks and occupation in Lebanon.

According to reports, Ankara stressed that prompt international engagement is necessary to address the conflict and mitigate its humanitarian and security consequences.
